Why Are Cell Phone Numbers So Hard To Find
By Bests | May 23, 2008
By law, you should not be able to find a forward search that gives you the cell phone number for anyone at any time. A forward search means that you are putting their first and last name into a search, and then waiting to see if their mobile number comes up. However, you can do this when it comes to home land line numbers, and that is something that has been done for a very long time. Why is it that one is easy to find and the other is just not to be found?
Land line phones have been around for a while, and directories have been around almost as long. Local phone companies put these out each year and send them to their customers. These directories have personal numbers, as well as numbers for all businesses in the area. They are some common and have been around for so long that no one questions their existence. Anyone who wishes to be left out can get a private number.
Cell numbers have not been around as long, but they have exploded in the last decade. What is different about mobile services as compared to your home service is that your cellular is with you all of the time. Also, you may have to pay for all of your incoming calls. If there was a directory full of cellular numbers, people would have to pay for unwanted calls from anyone who chose to call them. That could be extremely costly for anyone with a cellular phone.
Along with that comes the problem of those dreaded telemarketers. If you wish to keep telemarketers from calling your land line number, you simply have to sign up for the Do Not Call list. You can add your mobile number to this list, but that is not something that you should have to do. Not only could telemarketers run up your minutes on your phone, they could be worse than any offenders because they are, at times, relentless about how many times they will call.
You may not have any way of finding someone’s mobile number through an official directory, but you can find out who owns a number through a reverse cell phone lookup These are out there to help you when someone calls you repeatedly and won’t leave a message, or when they may be harassing you. You may find a name to go with a number through such a site.
