    A Quiet Respect

    By Bests | December 25, 2007

When Tim Duncan first came into the league, he was considered to be a great player who could play both ends of the floor. He had a fine career at Wake Forest and was the number one pick by the Spurs. He would team up with hall of fame player David Robinson, who would help with his growth.

Duncan was an impact player, quickly helping his team win the NBA title. He would do that again against the New Jersey Nets and finally against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The team was not only him even though the team does not have many great and flashy players. Under head coach, Greg Popovich, the Spurs were relentless and played like a close group. This shows that teams should not always seek the best players but to find players that want to win and to play for a common goal. When doing this, they also have to sacrifice for the team. Tim Duncan fit the criteria better than anyone.

Tim Duncan is a great player and is probably one of the best power forwards to ever play the game. He is sound on defense and is able to score at will at times. He has a sweet jump shot off the glass which he sometimes uses to mix up his offensive game. He is great on rebounds and plays with poise. Above all, he is modest and is a good human being. Now the question comes, then why does he lack respect? People do not really follow Duncan because his game is quiet. He is not flashy and is soft spoken. Players like Kobe Bryant, have great personalities and are exciting to watch.

This only goes to show that even at the highest level, being quiet will hurt you more than anything. Tim Duncan probably realizes that he is not a fan favorite of many but does not really care. He isn’t into the media like others are and carries himself the way he is. If he has cared at all, he would probably have taken action.

He is not a loser because of how he carries himself but he is a winner. He wins using his own style, practice and patience. He may not be remembered as a flashy player but will be remembered as a winner. The world knows this and he does too. He is still young enough to win more titles and looks forward to proving his case. He won’t be mistaken anymore. He has earned the respect as of now.
